Hi lovely crafty friends, foiling is such a cool technique and the results are amazing. But the thing with foil is those leftover bits with lots of pretty foil still on it. What to do with them? Obviously, you can’t throw them away:-)
I am going to show you a bunch of ways to the foil scraps to get the most out of those fancy foils and have less waste at the same time!
All techniques and ideas are shown and explained in the video tutorial. Make sure to watch it to get all the best tips and tricks.

To make foil stick we need to think sticky things, and Glue Dots ( SBC | JGG | SSS ) are a perfect way to add some foil accents and use up a bit of those scraps.
Foil is available in multiple colours from different brands. I tried even the ones that say hot foil or use with laminator work with the following techniques.
Here are some Deco Foils ( SBC | JGG | SSS | THR ) for you to check out. In case you have foil lying around just give it a try with a scrap piece.
For this technique, I used Cosmic Shimmer Flake And Glitter Glue ( SBC | SSS | ECS ).
This glue stays sticky once dry and dries pretty fast so you can keep on creating without the long waiting time.
Another great sticky base for foil are Tape Runners ( SBC | JGG | SSS ) this on has a fun square pattern.
They also come in dots and regular complete tape, make a random pattern on your card and add some foil, that’s it, easy peasy.
The thing with foil combined with tapes and double-sided adhesives is that they can stay a bit sticky or tacky.
Of course, I have a way to fix that for you. Just use an Anti-Static Pouch ( SBC | SSS ). After applying the foil simply go over the pattern and then wipe away the excess powder with a Nuvo – Surface Sweep ( SBC | SSS ) or other soft brush to de-stick the adhesive.
This is one of my favorite products to use with foils, Therm O Web – Deco Foil – Transfer Gel – DUO ( SBC | JGG | SSS | THR ). It can be used with stencils and can be easily washed off , a good thing in my book, easy cleaning:-)
But you can also apply it with a Palette Knife ( SBC ). The Vicki Boutin Silicon Palette Knife is my go-to one because it’s so easy to work with. I have used it for a few years already and still looks new.
And then an old-time favourite, good for lots of techniques and for sticking papers and panels to a card. Double-Sided Adhesive ( SBC | JGG | SSS ) is a must-have for your craft stash, hardly any day goes by without it for me:-)
And it makes a great sticky base or layer for foil and foil scraps.
The Cosmic Shimmer Flake And Glitter Glue ( SBC | SSS | ECS ) is also perfect for adding details. The fine tip of the bottle makes applying little accents and working precisely very easy.
Adding the little details are a great way to use up those smaller foil scraps and make your design a bit more special.
In case you are wondering how to finish those cards and backgrounds, make sure to take a peek inside The Treasure Trunk where you can find all Gerry’s Gems. Super cool freebies to use on all your paper crafting projects.
Let’s wrap it up with the last tip in case you want to use a complete foil scrap. On those leftover pieces can be an incredibly cool pattern but the shiny plastic isn’t quite appealing.
Just add the complete piece with Double Sided Adhesive ( SBC | JGG | SSS ) to a card or other base. And then add a layer of Texture Paste – Transparent Matte ( SBC | JGG | SSS ) to get rid of the plastic look, keeping the pretty foil shine.
I hope you are inspired to not only save those foil scraps but also use them. Thanks for stopping by and make sure to keep on crafting!
