There are lots of fun examples and heat embossing techniques in this jam packed video along with a handy DIY embossing tool that will keep your hands in the safe zone. So make sure to watch so you can see all techniques in action.
The first technique is the multi colour heat embossing and it was used to make the backgrounds for these two cards. Both are a bit similar but different as the left card has the the multi colour background on top of the double note card. The card on the right has the embossed part behind the florals.
The background was cut with the Sizzix Tim Holtz Bouquet Thinlits Die ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) with a bold floral pattern.
To colour the background Sizzix embossing powder was used, this is a super fine powder that has a very subtle sparkle in it. I used a combination of Sizzix Embossing Powder Primrose ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ), Banana Blast ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) and Mango Tango ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ).
The big sentiment was made with Sizzix Chunky Alphabet Bigz XL Die ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) and coloured with another Sizzix Embossing Powder Earl Grey ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ).
The card was finished with some Exotic Onyx, Studio Katia Pearls ( ELH | STD ). A touch of a somewhat darker colour lifts the bight colours from the embossed background.
Here are two more cards with embossed details this time. Just a touch of glossy sparkling embossing powder to add some interest to the cards. On both cards embossing folders are used to create a fun textured background combined with the Sizzix Intricate Wings Thinlits Die ( SBC | SZZ | SZX )
Here the edges of the wings of the butterfly were coloured with embossing powder for a hint of sparkle. The colour Mango Tango ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) was used to match the three cardstock colours.
The cardstock was from the Sizzix – Making Essentials Collection – Cardstock Sheets ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) with 80 sheets of A4 size cardstock and a pretty collection of colours that can be combined. A great starters pack and basic pack to have in your stash.
The sentiment was made with Tim Holtz – Thinlits Die – Alphanumeric Label ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) and the textured background was embossed with Sizzix – 3D Textured Impressions – Embossing Folders – Doily ( SBC | SZZ | SZX )
On this card I added some fun details on the dry embossed background with Sizzix Embossing Powder Banana Blast ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) This brings the colour of the butterfly and the background together.
The background was made with the Tim Holtz – 3D Embossing Folder – Crackle ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) and the same Tim Holtz sentiment.
Two more cards with embossing accents added in different ways. The gloss and sparkle from the embossing powder gives such a great contrast to the matt colours of the cardstock.
On these big Sizzix Floral Layers ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) the second layer was embossed with Sizzix Embossing Powder Arctic Sky ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) adding even more to the dimension on the card.
On this card the Tim Holtz – 3D Embossing Folder – Crackle ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) was used for the background but this time the rounded side was used creating a different look.
Here you can see some more embossed accents, but a bit more in the background, on both the leaves and behind the flowers to fill the open spaces.
I used Sizzix Mermaid Kiss Embossing Powder ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) and Agave ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) for the leaves. To the back of the flowers I added a piece of card embossed with Purple Dusk ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ).
The cardstock in the background was used with Tim Holtz Lumber 3D Embossing Folder ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) to get the fun wood accent, which is a great texture that goes with so many designs.
This card was made with the Sizzix Spring Stems Thinlits Die ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) as a focal point.
On the background little splats of colour were made with Sizzix Embossing Powder Mint Julep ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ), Primrose ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) and Banana Blast ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ). Another fun way to use embossing powders.
The little coloured details on the flowers are easy to add using the Studio Katia Embellishment Wand ( ELH | STD ) which makes picking up and adding the small pieces no brainer.
This sentiment was made with Tim Holtz – Thinlits Die – Alphanumeric Label ( SBC | SZZ | SZX ) using the cut out letters this time and I added on a white strip with a same colour mat as the card base.
You can see the little splats of colour that add a fun touch in the background.
