crhistmas dies used on non-seasonal cards

Hi lovely crafty friends, the Holidays are behind us and then there is that pile of Christmas dies lying around with no purpose, so what do we do? Well use them of course:-) When you think outside the box a lot of Seasonal dies can be used all year round.

I have used a mix of real Christmas dies combined with more general dies from the Tim Holtz Christmas release that can be used for lots of different designs.

(All supplies are linked to different stores at the end of this post in the thumbnails. The different stores are also linked behind the product name. Among them are affiliate links that may be used at no cost to you.)

Video Tutorial

I am sharing a bunch of ideas with different dies, some very Christmas, others are more general, and I show you ways to use them with different techniques. So be sure to watch today’s video to see all techniques in action.

If you haven’t seen the Shimmer Powder Background Techniques video yet, make sure to check it out. I share more ways on how to use the Tim Holtz Nordic Winter Die there.

nordic winter for year round

The First Set Of Cards

On these cards I used the Tim Holtz – Thinlits Die – Nordic Winter ( SBC | CST | CRF | SZZ ) with Tonic Studios Glitter card.

I also use the Tim Holtz – Thinlits Die – Alphanumeric Classic Lower ( SBC | CST | CRF | SZZ ) and Tim Holtz – Bigz XL – Alphabet Die – Handmade ( SBC | CST | CRF ) for the sentiments.

nordis winter die pink and blue

On these cards I used the Craft Perfect Glitter Card Opulant Orchid ( CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC ) and Turquoise Lake ( SBC | CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC ) as the main colours.

I mixed the Pink Glitter Card with Welsh Gold ( CST | CRF | TNC | TNCUK ) and Craft Perfect Glitter Card Ruby Ritz ( CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC ) for the pieces I added in the cut out parts.

I kept the Pink card simple with only two colours and white added for the note card and sentiment. I added the sentiment on a piece of vellum to make it stand out more.

For the sentiment I used the Tim Holtz – Thinlits Die – Alphanumeric Classic Lower ( SBC | CST | CRF | SZZ ) this is a really big set with lots of double letters so you can cut multiple words at once.

The other card is more colourful with all cut outs of the other glitter cards and the added mirror card animals. The card is finished with a printed sentiment.

red and gold glitter cards

On these cards I have the Glitter Card Welsh Gold ( CST | CRF | TNC | TNCUKand Craft Perfect Glitter Card Ruby Ritz ( CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC

I used the Tim Holtz – Bigz XL – Alphabet Die – Handmade ( SBC | CST | CRF ) for the sentiment on the left card. With the Bigz XL die you can cut 1 millimeter chipboard which makes a nice base for letters and they are easy to heat emboss. The letters are 1″ – 1 1/2″ Tall which is a great size to make your own big sentiments.

For the red card I used the 3D Impresslits – Star Trim ( SBC | CST ) to make a border piece combined with a printed sentiment.

I cut the star trim out of Tim Holtz – Kraft Stock – Metallic – 2 ( SBC ) and also used one of the pieces that was sticking out and I cut off.

festive repeat friendship cards

Festive Repeat Mixed With Holiday Greens

On these cards I used the Sizzix – Thinlits Die – Festive Repeat ( SBC | CRF | CST ) to make two cards out of one cut background.

I kept the left card very basic with the Tim Holtz – Alphanumeric Classic Lower ( SBC | CST | CRF | SZZ ) with a printed strip for the sentiment. I cut the sentiment out of a piece of Tim Holtz – Kraft Stock – Metallic ( SBC | CST | CRFwith a black mat to the back. And the other way around for the second sentiment.

On the right card I used the cut outs from the first card and the Tim Holtz – Thinlits Die – Mini Holiday Greens ( SBC | CST ). My base was Craft Perfect Ultra Smooth Card ( CRF | CST | TNCUK | TNC ) with

I cut the background with the Festive Repeat die out of  Neenah Solar White Cardstock ( SBC | CRF | CST ) with Stick It – Adhesive Sheets Double Sided ( SBC | CRF | CST ) to the back. This way I could use the little dots as stickers on the other card.

I used Make Art – Blendable Dye Ink Pads – Forget-Me-Not ( SBC ) with Bluebird( SBC ) and Sky Blue( SBCto colour the background after die-cutting. You can colour the card first if you prefer that.

On the second card I added the dots and I used the letters I cut out of the sentiment card of the first card. Because this card is not as filled as the previous one I added a bit of the Holiday Greens behind the sentiment.

I also coloured the edges of the white card with the blue Make Art Blendable dye ink to match the dots.

Easy Foil And Distressed Look

For the last card I used the Sizzix – Thinlits Die – Festive Repeat ( SBC | CRF | CST ) die again cut out of Tim Holtz – Kraft Stock – Metallic – 2 ( SBCI used the gorgeous rose gold card.

I sanded all the foiled card parts to get the fun worn look. On the 3D Impresslits – Star Trim ( SBC | CST ) that cut and emboss at the same time, which is super cool, it’s even easier to get the worn look by sanding because of the raise parts.

sentiment and greens

I used the Tonic Studios – Sentiments Strip Hello ( SBC | CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC ) cut out of the same kraftstock for the mat.

I used Neenah Solar White ( SBC | CRF | CST ) coloured with distress oxide ink Worn Lipstick ( SBC | CST | CSTwhich makes it easy to get a coloured card in a jiffy. The Neenah Card was very easy to colour it did warp a bit but dried nice and flat. It was the first time I tried it but I really like it so far.

I hope you liked this post and I wish you a wonderful weekend. Thanks for stopping by and make sure to keep on crafting!
