Hi lovely crafty friends, today I have cards with Shimmer Powder backgrounds. These sparkling vibrant coloured mica powders add a beautiful shimmer to your projects and are super easy to use. I have a few different ways to make the backgrounds.
(All supplies are linked to different stores at the end of this post in the thumbnails. The different stores are also linked behind the product name. Among them are affiliate links that may be used at no cost to you.)
Shimmer Powders are very easy to use also for beginner crafters and the effects you’ll get on your projects are amazing. You can use them in different ways and today I show you a few ways to make gorgeous backgrounds and turn them into cards. So be sure to watch today’s video to see all techniques in action.
There Is More Shimmer Inspiration For You
Do you like the look of the Shimmer Powder then I have some more inspiration for you. Make sure to check out the WaterColour Christmas Cards With Nuvo Shimmer Powder video to see some more fun techniques.
First The Backgrounds
For the first background I used just one colour Nuvo – Shimmer Powder – Storm Cloud ( SBC | CRF | CST | TNCUK | TNC ). I blended the colour out to very little at the bottom. And the super cool thing about these powders is that they keep on shimmering even when they are diluted.
For the next background I used another two colours to make this textured background. I added the bright yellow Solar Flare ( SBC | CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC ) in the middle and Atlantis Burst ( SBC | CRF | CST | TNCUK | TNC ) which is one of my favorite colours, on the rest of the card.
And with mixing the colours a bit in the middle you get even more different colours.
Here Are The Backgrounds Turned Into Cards
I added Ranger Ink – Stickles – Black Diamond ( SBC | JGG ) to the bottom, in a wonky line like it’s oneven soil. The two deers are cut with the Tim Holtz – Nordic Winter die ( SBC | CST | CRF | SZZ ) out of black card and they stand out really nice against the back and grey background
I cut part of the sentiment out of the card with Tim Holtz Die – Alphanumeric Label ( SBC | CST | CRF | SZZ ) out of the Idea-ology – Tim Holtz Metallic Kraft Stock ( SBC | CST | CRF ) using the Ranger Ink – Wendy Vecchi – Make Art – Stay-tion ( SBC | JGG ) to line up the letters.
Two Colours Already Make Pretty Backgrounds
For the next card I have torn a piece of vellum and I fold that around the card. I used the make art station again to add the sentiment. The added vellum adds interest to the card but keeps the pretty background visible.
I have cut the big letters also cut out of Metallic Kraft Stock ( SBC | CST | CRF ) to add some more shine and the fun foiled affect that is so popular right now. And I finished with some big premade Nuvo – Crystal Drops – Ebony Black ( SBC | CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC )
I used the same drops as a glue to add them on the card this way the vellum doesn’t warp.
The white on the coloured Shimmer Powder background really makes the colour pop even more.
I cut the word out of Craft Perfect Ultra Smooth Card ( CRF | CST | TNCUK | TNC ) with the Tim Holtz Alphanumeric Classic Lower die ( SBC | CST | CRF | SZZ ) with double sided adhesive on the back to make stickers. Which makes it super easy to add them on the card using the the Make-Art station.
The added strip on the bottom is coloured with Nuvo – Embellishment Mousse – Pure Platinum ( SBC | CST | CRF | TNCUK | TNC ) and torn to get the fun frilly edge. Along the edge I’ve added some Tim Holtz – Distress Mica Flakes ( SBC | JGG ) which have different shapes and sizes and add some extra shimmer and sparkle.
I hope you are inspired to get started on your own sparkling shimmery projects, I love to hear from you so leave me a comment. Thanks for stopping by and make sure to keep on crafting.
